Commemorating IDAHOT HK 2018: #LoveNotHate

Date: 12 May 2018 (Sat)
Time: 3:00-6:00pm
Venue: Chater Garden, Central
Facebook event: http://www.facebook.com/events/167647650604903

On May 17 1990, homosexuality was officially removed from the International Classification of Diseases of the World Health Organization (WHO). Since then, May 17 is marked as the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia that aims to coordinate international events that raise awareness of LGBT rights violations and stimulate interest in LGBT rights work worldwide. In recent years, over 130 countries are organizing various commemorations in support of the recognition of human rights for all, irrespective of sexual orientation or gender identity or expression.

The theme for this year's IDAHOT is "Alliances for Solidarity". Pink Dot HK, BigLove Alliance and Covenant of the Rainbow will be hosting a HK commemorating event in the afternoon of 12 May (Sat). Various guests and representatives from different Asian Pacific regions will be sharing their stories and experience in combating homophobia. Amnesty International HK, one of our supporting organizations, will run an exhibition to raise awareness of violence, discrimination, and repression of LGBT communities worldwide. A religious memorial service will be conducted to pay tribute to those who were hurt, oppressed, imprisoned or even killed in homophobic violence and hate crimes. The event can serve as a great opportunity to engage in dialogue with the media, policymakers, public opinion, and wider civil society. We sincerely invite everyone to join us in solidarity and say no to hatred!
