"Life cannot be meaningless so long as we have the capacity to affect the well-being of ourselves and others. For true meaninglessness, we would need heaven. In the state of permanent, perfect bliss that is the very definition of heaven, 'making a difference' is ruled out. If the difference made an improvement, the previous state could not have been perfect."

無神論者如何在生命中尋著意義?只要我們還有能力影響自己和他人的福祉,我們的生命便不可能沒有意義。想達到真正的無意義,我們便需要天堂。天堂的定義是永恆完美的幸福狀態。在這樣的狀態之下,我們不可能作任何有意義的改善,因為任何改善的可能都意味著之前的狀態非完美。
