http://www.ocregister.com/articles/warren-531059-asian-church.htmlRacial tensions within America’s evangelical Christian establishment emerged Monday when more than 400 Asian American church leaders and supporters released an open letter decrying “the continuing divide that persists in the North American evangelical church in the area of racial harmony.”
The letter, signed by prominent pastors, seminary professors and other leaders from a broad spectrum of churches and denominations, was precipitated by recent events at Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, where a series of online comments by Pastor Rick Warren and a video shown at a church conference were deemed racially insensitive by Asian observers.
Signatories of the letter demanded that American evangelicals “make a more concerted effort to both understand and address the concerns of (their) Asian American brothers and sisters.”
The letter signals that Asian Christians are frustrated with being taken for granted by “largely white (Christian) organizations that are just not listening, and leaders who don’t really care,” said signatory Tim Tseng, a Baptist pastor in San Jose and former seminary professor.
