On 3 October 2009, I was invited to join a "SOS Climate Change Action Conference" titled "Global Unity: Together in Saving Lives" at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University organized by the
Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association.
It was a terrific experience. The conference started at 3pm with distinguished speakers including Shu Geng (Dean, School of Environment & Energy, Graduate School in Shenzhen, Peking University), Ruey Shiung Lin (Emeritus Professor, Institute of Preventive Medicine, College of Public Health, National Taiwan Univeristy), Chieh Lin (Associate Professor, Dept of Environmental Science & Engineering, National Pingtung University of Science & Technology), and Enboa Wu (Vice-President, Material & Packaging Technologies Group, Hong Kong Applied Science & Technology Research Institute (ASTRI)). Then Supreme Master Ching Hai answered questions from the floor via tele-conferencing for more than 2.5 hours from 4:40pm to 7:20pm. Her knowledge, wisdom, compassion, and humour are really remarkable. Now I understand why she can motivate so many followers. After presenting the Shining World Hero Award to
Bobsy, a Hong Kong environmentalist, a vegetarian buffet was served between 7:30pm and 8pm. Then we enjoyed a "Green Concert" with singing, chamber music, dancing, and fashion show (of Ching Hai's designs) up to 9:30pm.
The organizing power of the Hong Kong followers of Ching Hai is very impressive. Each guest was presented with a big picture book By Ching Hai: either "The Birds in My Life" or "The Dogs in My Life." Professional interpretation was provided. The whole event was broadcasted live by
SupremeMasterTV and I could see 4 or 5 cameras, 2 of them moving; the professionality of their work is evident.
Global warming is a pressing issue and at least 18% (Ching Hai claimed 60%) of the green house gases is contributed by rearing animals for meat. The message is clear: "Be Veg! Go Green! Save the Planet!"
Obviously, Supreme Master Ching Hai is a multi-talented (she writes, composes, paints, designs fashion, etc) and compassionate person doing a lot of charity work and taking up the urgent job to save the earth and humanity...but better if she could choose not to dye her hair with chemicals, and dress and name herself more modestly.
